Join the CKUT Board of Directors.
The CKUT Board of Directors is composed of 9 – 13 Directors, who are elected at the Annual General Meeting in accordance with the bylaws and the CKUT Election Policy. CKUT is actively looking for volunteers from the community.
Candidates running for a Community seat must be: • 18 years or older • from the community at large, including but not limited to residents of Montreal and surrounding areas, and faculty/staff of McGill University
Community seats do not require any previous involvement with CKUT. If you are interested in joining the Board of Directors you must be interviewed by our Board Nomination Committee who will recommend all eligible and qualified candidates to join the Board. All interested candidates have until January 10th, 2016 to submit their candidacy.
About Radio CKUT CKUT is a non-profit, member owned, campus-community radio station based at McGill University. CKUT provides alternative music, news and spoken word programming to the city of Montreal and surrounding areas, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. CKUT is made up of over 300 volunteers working with a staff of coordinators, not just to make creative and insightful radio programming, but also to manage the station. The station operates on a collective management system that includes volunteers in decision-making.
Mission CKUT’s mandate is to provide an essential service to those in the Montreal community whose needs are not met by mainstream commercial radio. CKUT functions not only as an alternative to the status quo, but also as a viable community resource. CKUT serves as a training ground for the community and student populations, and in doing so, provides an essential educational and information service to the greater Montreal community.

Role of CKUT Board The Board of Directors follows the directives of the membership, reads the fine print, approves the annual budget, engages in community outreach, and keeps CKUT’s eye on the bigger picture. The CKUT Board of Directors includes members who are McGill undergraduate and post-graduate students, McGill faculty and staff members, CKUT volunteers, staff, and residents of the general Montreal area.
No previous experience is required, but CKUT is looking for Board of Director Member with skills
or knowledge in the in the following areas:
– Familiarity with not-for-profit governance
– Collective management and/or consensus-based decision making
-‐ Legal expertise
-‐ Fundraising or grant-writing
-‐ Conflict resolution
– Human Resources
Time Requirements The Board of Directors generally meets once a month, or twice if there are lots of projects on the go. Committees also meet once a month and complete work through email. In addition to meetings, Board members need (at minimum) an additional hour per week to review relevant documents and emails. Total time commitment: 7-10 hours a month.

Upon being elected as a Board member you are also required to familiarize yourself with:

- The CKUT By-Laws
- Annual Budget and Financial Statements
