The Funding & Outreach coordinator is responsible for securing funding both through grants and through multiple donor-based fundraising appeals, including an 10-day On-Air Funding Drive.

CKUT is an English campus-community radio station based out of McGill University. The Funding & Outreach Coordinator is expected to support on-campus events and outreach in order to promote CKUT to the wider McGill student population. The coordinator will hire, train and support a work study student to plan and organized on-campus events, especially in August/September and January. These activities may include panels, monthly concert series, live remote broadcasts, DJ events and other on-campus initiatives throughout the year.

The coordinator is also expected to liaison with the off-campus community by preparing the monthly community newsletter, maintaining contact with donors and by supporting CKUT’s online presence through social media tools as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Other responsibilities of the coordinator include maintaining strong relations with our partners at McGill Conservatory Day camps as well ensuring that general CKUT promotional materials are regularly available.

CKUT is a collectively managed organization requiring staff to work closely with one another and with volunteers to manage the station. All staff play a direct role in managing CKUT’s daily operations and in building a vision of the organization’s future. The Fundraising and Outreach Coordinator is expected to take part in weekly meetings and share station management tasks.


  • Research, write and apply for grants and maintain strong relationships with various granting bodies
  • Implement multiple fundraising appeals per year, in order to secure a multi-year donor-based support
  • Oversee the Funding and Outreach department budget
  • Participate in the collective management of the station, which includes (but isn’t limited to) weekly meetings and station maintenance.
  • Communicate with the Board of Directors about various fundraising initiatives
  • Plan and coordinate the 10-day long Annual Funding Drive
  • Hire, train and work closely with work study students, including a Funding Drive Assistant and a Campus-Events and Outreach Coordinator
  • Prepare annual donor newsletter, gift mail outs, pre-pledge forms and all promotional material (posters, press releases, thank you cards, etc.)
  • Work with volunteers to fulfill the department goals and tasks
  • Update and maintain the funding drive database


  • Previous fundraising experience
  • Ability to create and manage a budget
  • Demonstrated project management and/or event coordination
  • Familiarity with different social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Enjoys working with volunteers and can train/delegate tasks to volunteers
  • Highly organized, reliable and capable of working in a busy environment
  • Basic graphic design skills (for posters, web banners, and promotional material)
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and work independently
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English and French, oral and written
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • Self-motivated


  • Previous campus-community radio experience
  • Experience in consensus-based decision making environment
  • Familiarity with McGill University on-campus culture
  • Knowledge of CRM databases or file management software
  • Commitment to working with anti-oppression principles
  • Drivers license

This is a full-time permanent position with a wage of $15.70-$16.50/hr (TBD), 4 weeks paid vacation.

CKUT 90.3FM est une organisation gérée collectivement qui requiert des membres de personnel travaillant de façon étroite les uns avec les autres ainsi qu’avec les bénévoles. Chaque membre joue un rôle direct dans l’administration quotidienne des opérations et dans l’aboutissement d’une vision future de l’organisation.

Il est de la responsabilité du coordinateur de financement et de promotion de mettre de l’avant l’identité de la station autant dans la communauté de McGill que dans celle de toute la Ville de Montréal. Ceci comprend l’organisation d’événements et de diffusions spéciales, en plus du développement de la présence de CKUT dans les médias sociaux tout en assurant à la station l’accessibilité de matériel promotionnel et en recherchant de nouvelles collaborations. Pour ce qu’il en est de la promotion, les responsabilités du coordonnateur comprennent l’organisation et la gestion de la campagne de financement annuelle, la coordination du camp jour d’été de CKUT, la gestion des demandes de bourses et l’acquisition de nouvelles sources de financement.

CKUT Funding Drive Assistant (McGill Work Study position)

Fall - 9 hours/week for 13 weeks


Start date: Winter semester 2019

Every year Radio CKUT runs a 10-day long Funding Drive where we ask listeners to support the station through financial donations. This campaign takes place on air, on the internet, through mail, person-to-person, and through special events. The Funding Drive requires the participation of CKUT’s entire volunteer and staff base. Gifts and prizes are organized for donors along with special events and special on-air programming. The Funding Drive is a significant source of funding for Radio CKUT.


The Funding Drive Assistant will work closely with the Funding & Outreach Coordinator to prepare, run and wrap-up the 10-day live-on-air Funding Drive. This will include tasks such as:

Request food donations from local businesses and secure prize sponsorships.

Schedule pick-up and delivery of food and gifts.

Prepare a phone room-schedule.

Contact volunteers to sign-up for all phone-room shifts.

Train volunteers in the phone room and for other tasks.

Update the Funding Drive website and related social media.

Accept Funding Drive payments.

Assist in the preparation of invoice, gift, and thank you card mail outs before and after the Funding Drive.

Maintain the Funding Drive database and keep it up to date.

Help coordinate any Funding Drive events.

Support the Funding and Outreach Coordinator in any other Funding Drive related tasks.


Interest in working with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Comfortable soliciting donations and maintain good relationship with sponsors.

Extremely well organized, and be good at keeping exact records.

Should be able to work independently, and to work with a team of volunteers.

Must be capable of working in fast-paced environment.
