Tune in on Tune in on Monday night 18h-19h, for a special Pervers/Cite edition of Queercorps, documenting the 25th anniversary of the Sex Garage raids that changed the face of the city. Sex Garage was a mostly LGBT after-hours party in the Old Port of Montreal that was raided on July 16th 1990, entailing numerous arrests and police violence and harassment. This sparked protests and demonstrations that would lead to a new relationship between LGBT people and public opinion, as well as the formation of (now no longer existent) Divers/Cite. We’ll be speaking with CKUT allum Puelo Deir and Linda Dawn Hammond, who were both there that night. Linda took photos of the raid and police violence, which were instrumental in holding the police accountable and publicizing the events.Together we’ll discuss that night, as well as what has and has not changed over the past 25 years.

Pervers/Cité is a collaboratively organized summer festival that aims to make links across social justice groups, queer communities, and radical visions of pride. In a climate of corporatized gay agendas and whitewashed homogeneity amongst queers, Pervers/cité strives to provide a critical and accessible schedule of activities, designed to bring back the radical underpinnings to the pride movement. We hope to shed light on the history of LGBT organizing and pride festivals in Montreal with this episode of Queercorps. For more info: Peverscite
