GUAPO is a Montreal based Producer, Composer, DJ & Guitarist who has performed on three continents at festivals like Glastonbury (UK) and the Telerama Dub Festival (Paris).
His DJ mixes regularly reach the Top 5 in the world on the Mixcloud charts. As a film composer he was nominated for the 2002 Jutra Award for Best Musical Score.
As Music Coordinator & DJ for fashion icon Jean Paul Gaultier's Pinkarnaval and Guy Laliberté's Terrakarnaval he played to crowds of 15,000 spectators in Place Des Festivals during the Just For Laughs Festival. Other hometown gig highlights include the Montreal International Jazz Fest, Bal En Blanc, the Satosphere Dome, Olympic Stadium, Metropolis, Groove & Bass, Timeless etc...
Guapo is featured on six albums by UK world beat pioneers Suns of Arqa as producer and/or guitarist. He founded the label Finite Records and was the Project Director for Tumbao Records, the label of Afro House music producer Quicksound.
With DJ Melodrastik he co-founded Flamingo Funk and booked international headliners like Krafty Kuts and Mista Trick to tour in Canada.
He collaborated on performances and/or recordings with Grammy & Juno Award winners and seminal artists like Youth, Adrian Sherwood, Muslimgauze, Luke Vibert & Blu-Rum 13, Luisito Quintero, Alpha Yaya Diallo, Ragunath Seth, Johar Ali Khan etc...
Over the past 25 years his DJ sets have ranged from DnB, Dub, World Beat, Jazzy Downtempo, Afro Latin Brazilian House, Disco House and Electro. Since 2018 his main focus has been Bass Music.
His Bass Music sets are a tribute to sample culture. Mixing in a new song every 2 minutes, Guapo playfully jumps across multiples genres. Joyful anthems from Funk, Soul, Blues, Reggae, Rock, Latin Brazilian, Disco & Hip Hop are sampled, glitched and remixed. Transformed into Glitch Hop, Ghetto Funk, Bass House, UK Garage, DnB, Jungle and Swing & Bass.
His animated stage presence gets the party rocking as he takes the audience on an absurdly funky anarchic adventure!
