Armen at the Bazaar's self-titled EP scored a rave review by North by Northeast: "I didn't just get a 6 song EP, I got an experience." He manipulates vocal layering and harmonies along with a plenitude of instruments in a way that is both unexpected and oddly relaxing. From his myspace: "Try to be naked. Try to be free. Respect your capsule."
The Belle Game is a large eight-piece family of charming smooth-as-buttah folk. If you close your eyes you might see anthropomorphic flowers dancing... and you will be happy. They have recently released their first EP Inventing Letters and have been actively performing around Montreal, playing alongside favourite Montreal acts like The Youjsh and Bent by Elephants. Fame'n'glory is a guarentee for this determined group.

THE YOUJSH. Originally inspired by klezmer music, this seven piece aural spectacle will make you dance/bounce/sway/thrash/laugh/cry... depending on how sentimental (or drunk) you are. They are an instrumental eruption that you have got to see for yourself, because you probably won't come across anything like 'em.. ever.. again.
GRIMES. Her recently released album "Geidi Primes" has been receiving incredible reviews from all corners of the universe, including the title of "landmark album" by the taste-making blog Weird Canada. Her mysteriously melodic sound, described as music "made for very tall people about what it's like to be very small" will warm your soul, while sending your body into chills.. not unlike the curious effects of an Icy-Hot patch.. but for your psyche...
CAPTAINS. If you've heard of them, you're too trendy. Captains has only recently come together, but they are ready to prove themselves. Self-described as both "happy fun times" and "rub a baby buggy bumpers", you can expect a joyously odd ensemble, emitting some delirious sounds that may just catch you off guard if you're not careful.

The Hoof and the Heel have been on a busy tour spree this past year, tickling the ears of lucky listeners in such exotic locations as Los Angeles and Brooklyn, where they opened for the gem of garage music, Jemina Pearl. The Montreal Gazette gave The Hoof and the Heel's Pop Montreal show a rave review back in October, and they continue to blow the minds of (un)suspecting music fans: "Singer-guitarist Harris Shper seemed to be quivering on the edge of a breakdown as he churned out his band‘s drama; instead, he was feeling these songs as they gushed forth. After their 2009 Release of their EP The Guenevere, The Crown Vandals have been compared to the likes of such indie music heros as Neutral Milk Hotel and Devendra Banhart. Their two-peice band has recently toured across Eastern Canada and New England, but their infectious folk-pop, or "freak-folk" has been capturing the attention of music critics as far away as Sweden. "The band's quirky pop-rock-esque sound has caught the ear of a number of music aficionados, and catching them in such a small venue this early in their career should be a real treat..." Sasha Borodin creates exquisite compositions and then contorts them through improvisatory loop manipulations using custom built software, resulting in an unexpectedly enthralling sound experience. His music flirts with numerous electronic genres, touching on IDM and ambient. Accompanied by his live visual installations you'll feel as if your senses have been hit by a tranquilizer dart, in the possible way.

Scoring a review in the taste-making Weird Canada blog, The Pop Winds' first EP Understory is establishing their place in the nation-wide "weird pop" movement. Described as paisley psychedelic pop, this trio's first release was recorded at the now defunct loft-space and hub for pop explorations, Lab Synthese.
After a string of EP's, Intensive Care have just completed their first full-length album, Fairytales from the Island, with producer Jace Laske of The Besnard Lakes at Montreal's Breakglass Studio (Wolf Parade, Patrick Watson, Stars). Their progressively lush music has received comparisons to 70's bands such as Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Genesis as well as contemporary groups like Animal Collective and Sigur Ros, and even to British acts including Placebo and Muse.
The Kelp Center is a new group of post-modern pop eccentrics on the Montreal scene. Moving fluidly between light and dark, their sound reflects the influence of psychedelia as much as that of mid-90's trip-hop. Fuzz, samples, acoustic picking, and cool female vocals are only a few items in their magicians' bag of sonic tricks.
