LIDO PIMIENTA is a Canada-based Colombian artist and musician, and one of those brave, unique souls who encourages your heart. Her drawings and folk-art mirror her intensely personal and political music. Her music combines the enchanting intimacy of fragile electronic soundscapes with something like punk. Her 2010 Spanish-language debut album Color, is like a beautiful (and highly accessible) art installation made from ordinary craft supplies and stuff people keep around the house. It’s a bright world of rhythm and melody that you just want to walk around in and contemplate. Pimienta’s work has a deceptively simple quality. Its unassuming aesthetic conceals its strength. Listening to her music is an experience — one that’s potentially healing and transformative. Listen: https://soundcloud.com/lido-pimienta
No Bad Sound Studio offers local youth a wide variety of music workshops every week which include beat boxing, rapping, writing lyrics, singing lessons, music production, DJ-ing and performance skills. In 2009, it began to produce professional quality music released on CD, providing young artists with an opportunity to work directly with professional staff to create, save and develop musical projects that express socially conscious and lucid words. Performers: Twix, Shannon, the Fusionists, & more!
This event is a fundraiser for the Centre for Gender Advocacy, CKUT 90.3 FM, and the Maison des Jeunes de Côte-des-Neiges. Dragonroot is a collaboration of Radio CKUT 90.3fm (www.ckut.ca) and the Centre for Gender Advocacy (CGA) which brings important gender issues, the latest news, incredible musical talent and discussions on cultural happenings to the airwaves on a permanent and regular basis.
This is an exciting opportunity to focus on all the amazing work being done in and around the CGA and highlight local female/queer/trans/anti-status quo/feminist musicians.
