Embracing the long format oft left by the wayside in these turbulent times, The Long and Short of It is a show of lengthy pieces of music and albums played in their entirety, interspersed with short written pieces read out loud. Listen in to hear some jazz, classical, blues, electronic, ambient, experimental, folk, jam, rock, or maybe some hip-hop! You could also catch a short story, poem, magazine article, political manifesto, philosophical essay, or perhaps a serialized novel, all read live by your host, Simon Dobri. Whatever you hear, you can be certain that you’ll hear the whole thing. Tune in Monday night/Tuesday morning from 4:00 to 7:00 every week.

ALTERNATING PROGRAMMING FROM 11 TO MIDNIGHT ON TUESDAYS
EASY SONIC LIVING
Every second Tuesday from 11pm to midnight Easy Sonic Living brings you a live re-mixed sonic exploration into the depths of outer space, the human digestive system, and quirky found sounds from the interweb, etc. Featuring soundscapes, interviews, and sound art to a background of soul, old school hip-hop, ancient r’n’b, electronic music, and other musical gems. Sit back, relax, open your ears, and take it easy in our sonic living room.
Loosely inspired by evangelical radio formats, the Harvey Christ Radio Hour features storytelling, sermons and hymns – all performed live by Reverend Randy Peters, Reverend Norm, and Reverend Paco. Harvey Christians satirize dogmatic beliefs – across religion, politics, and pop culture —and mix the serious with the bizarre as an antidote to mainstream radio and religion. They’re a bunch of cockamamie, barn-burnin’ neo-compost-modern evangelical fools; divinely incomprehensible spiritual gurus (-neither beards nor rash); freaks in polyester & wool suits in high summer. Must be heard to be believed.
Tune in every other Wednesday night (Thursday morning) from 2am - 4am
Enough Is More than A Feast

This program is intended to provide a space to both foster and showcase collective creative radio
production by both amateur and veteran CKUT volunteers in spoken word. The program will push
limits of experimental radio and play with the elements that made radio magical in the past to its
audience. The program is meant to push the bounds of the producer’s and the listener’s
imagination through radio drama, soundscapes, poetry, storytelling and documentary, including
CKUT’s wayback archives; production heavy and creative works are encouraged.
The Montreal Sessions is a monthly artist-in-residency program. Each month a new local artist / DJ / musician / label / festival / promotor programs a month’s worth of live, weekly radio shows, which air every Tuesday from 3-5pm.
The program dramatically increases community access to CKUT’s airwaves among local independent artists and musicians, and provides CKUT listeners with an opportunity to hear unique live performances and garner information about local musical subcultures and movements. Many of the sessions have been recorded and shared on the Free Music Archive, a curated repository of excellent, free recordings, of which CKUT is a curator.
Past artists have included Suoni Per Il Popolo, Pop Montreal, Stomp Records, Passovah Productions, Psychic Handshake, MUTEK, Crustaces Tapes, Kalmunity, Soundcentral, Katacombes, Pierre Kwenders, Blue Skies Turn Black, Nomadic Massive, and many, many more!
Spanning thirty years and many locations coast to coast, Vince has worked as a performance poet, audio artist, and writer. He was a volunteer music programmer for CKUT right around the time the station won it’s FM license in 1987-88. After a six year hiatus he returned in 1994 and has been spinning discs here ever since. What to expect: sound collage, indie rock, demos, musique actuelle, jazz, world music, post-rock, avant-garde 20th cen. composition, field recordings, theme sets, and selections from Montreal’s newest & hottest releases. Plus, interviews with local artists, culture creators, activists, and plenty more.
New Shit is a weekly voyage into the world of breaking sounds from Montreal and beyond. Let the CKUT Music Department team guide your ears through new music of all sorts, from the mellow to the strange to the LOUD, plus interviews and live performances galore. Open your ears and let your inner musical omnivore go wild. Mondays 3:00-5:00pm.
