March 1, 2023: The Island of Queens
In his final show with the Audio Smut collective, Jamie Ross summons a cast of far-flung queer mystics to breathe life back into some of the scant few letters to emerge from a mysterious queer separatist experiment in the early 20th century.
The World Homosexual Organization, a secretive organization that went by many different names and was rumoured to have formed a secret queer society made up of members of at least 5 nationalities. If the accounts are true, if our intuition is correct, its operation in the 1930s and 40s make it one of the first modern groups of its kind in the world, majorly upsetting established timelines of Queer history.
Lending their voices are Emma Milwaukee (Buenos Aires), Summer Minerva (New York), Che Arias (Los Angeles), Rafaël Lemmens-Chapdelaine, Beardoncé Showtime Parsons (Toronto), with original music by Ky Brooks of Lungbutter (Montreal), and a favourite from Solar Year (Montreal-Los Angeles).
