June 13, 2023: Celebrating Black Fathers w/Oliver Day with a Special Tribute to Egbert Gaye
Egbert Gaye, the founder and managing editor of the Montreal Community Contact, a community newspaper that gave a voice and a platform to Montreal's English-speaking Black community for more than three decades has left this plane of existence to go and take up his place among the ancestors who came before him. Tonight on Soul Perspectives, we take a moment to honour him as a man of the community and a Black Father.
Our main guest this evening is: "A regular guy who gets curious." This is pretty much how Olivier Day sums himself up. That is the opening of his official website of the Awaken The Awesome podcast.
When he was in a very bad period of his life - lost his job, new house, new baby, debts piling on, with fear, uncertainty and doubt keeping me company as I spent his days trying his best to keep it together...Olivier eventually realized that no amount of wallowing in self-pity or toxic internal dialogue was gonna amount to anything other than wasting time.
Raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Olivier maintained a familiarity with overcoming obstacles despite being dealt a what he thought of as a lousy hand. He also realized that, in the process of getting back on his feet and shaking off this funk he'd gotten into, it was quite possible that others were also feeling this way.
With nothing but time on his hands, tapping into his background in Communication, Broadcasting, Copywriting, Photography, and Customer Service and he got to work.
The aim in creating the Awaken The Awesome podcast became both a means of recording his journey as well as extending a hand, to connect with individuals, just like you, who in their own authentic way, get to teach him and his listeners how to embrace, define and express the Awesomeness that lies within all of us.
Join us this Tuesday June 13, 2023 as we continue to honour Black Fathers in the community, tune in from 7-8.30pm on www.ckut.ca or 90.3FM on your Montreal radio dial.
