Why do you think the women on the side doesn’t ask to be in the relationship if the male is feeling the same feelings of why she hasn’t initiated a formal relationship

I think it stems from the deeply gendered and, in my opinion, outdated concept that in a relationship, it's the guy's responsibility to handle all the significant milestones—like asking someone out, officially declaring the relationship, and proposing. In the specific situation with my friend, she didn't want to initiate a formal relationship because she didn't want to be seen as clingy or needy, even though she was aware that he shared the same feelings. It all goes back to this new unwritten code in modern dating where there's a concerted effort to appear nonchalant and unbothered, even when you genuinely have strong feelings for the other person.
