March 5, 2024: Interview with Fatima Wilson of Hands of Steel Entertainment
Our guest Fatima Wilson was introduced to the Steelpan at the age of 5 by her father, Dr. Salah Wilson and Fatima began performing alongside her 5 siblings. They were known as the 'pan family' and were well known as Salah and Family Steelpan Workshop. Performing for thousands of events while also participating in many annual competitions.
Her vision is just like her father's as she continues to teach the steelpan as an extra curriculum activity program in the E.M.S.B. schools. This year marks its 33 years as it began in 1991 by Dr. Salah Wilson.
Fatima continues to grow the steelpan movement in Montreal, determined to have it become a recognized credited program amongst all schools in Montreal.
Having attended McGill Music (Schulich) Conservatory, she began teaching the steelpan within the E.M.S.B. Schools in 2005. Today, marking my 19 years, I am presently the coordinator for the steelpan program for over 300 students spanning across 5 E.M.S.B. schools while in the process of completing my studies to obtain my degree in education at Concordia University.
