March 20, 2019: In the Motherhood - March 20, 2019 - Intergenerational Chinese communities in Montreal w/ Bethany Or
We're talking about the intergenerational Chinese communities of Montréal on this month's In the Motherhood – today at 6 p.m. on CKUT 90.3FM! www.ckut.ca
Bethany Or (also known for doc Être chinois au Québec - un «road movie» / Being Chinese in Québec) sheds light on the gentrification affecting Montréal's Chinatown, a QS politician's recent racist remarks and the response from Quebec's Chinese communities including a rare march organized by the Progressive Chinese of Québec, as well as her own experiences as a POC parent. In Bethany's words: “Montreal's Chinatown is the one place in the world where I feel most connected to my past, to my roots, to myself. My great-grandfather arrived in Montreal's Chinatown 100 years ago, and four generations hence, I bring my two young sons there to help bridge the link with their Chinese heritage. I think many Chinese Montrealers do the same."
On a lighter and briefer note, Robyn walks among the butterflies and gets the biology scoop from a butterfly expert at this spring's Espace pour la vie Butterflies Go Free event. Thanks for listening!
