Funky Revolutions is based on the One. Since 1994, host Khalid and guests have invited you to groove & celebrate the history of Africana music - the African diaspora and its musical reflections around the world.
We explore the past, present and future of the funk. From introducing trip-hop to Montréal in the early 90’s, to supporting hip-hop’s underground, to presenting ethno-musicographies of jazz, soul, reggae and afro-funk, Funky Revolutions embraces all grooves & the revolutionary spirit of the Funk, from the Black Arts Movement of the 70s to Indigenous defiances & liberations in the (post) colonial world.

May 31, 2025: Arabophonics: A Livebroadcast from Maktaba Bookstore
Live broadcast of Funky Revolutions from Maktaba bookshop and cultural space at 165 St-Paul St West in the Old Port of Montreal. We highlight the Maktaba project, co-founded by artists Sundus Abdul Hadi and Yassin Alsalman. Maktaba, is “a concept bookshop and boutique nestled in a heritage building. Meaning both “library” and “bookshop” in Arabic, MAKTABA is an artist-run, deeply-rooted space invested in representation and culture.” https://www.maktaba.online/en/.
For this special broadcast Stefan will be sharing a mixtape that includes sounds from a recent cultural event at La Sala Rossa to support the Sudan Solidarity Collective as well as material from the Make Fuzz Not War compilation released to support Doctors Without Borders work in Palestine and the Middle East Children's Alliance.
