August 12, 2025: Interview w/Quinton Cameron
Welcome to Soul Perspectives on CKUT 90.3 FM, where the soul speaks, and perspectives shift. Tonight, we’re thrilled to have a special guest joining us—filmmaker, writer, and all-around creative force, Quinton Cameron.
Born in West LA and raised in Palmdale, Quinton grew up as the class clown—always cracking jokes, daydreaming, and skating through life—literally. Skateboarding wasn’t just a hobby for him; it was a way of life, and filming his friends’ antics on the board became an early introduction to storytelling. But life wasn’t all kickflips and laughter. At 11, the passing of his grandfather hit his family hard, emotionally and financially. Humour became his coping mechanism, a way to lighten the load even when things felt heavy.
After graduating high school, Quinton headed to CSUN, initially pursuing a path in kinesiology and biomedical research with dreams of becoming an MD-PhD. But destiny had other plans. A chance discovery of an old middle school folder—filled with dreams of studying cinematography at UCLA—changed everything. With the encouragement of a cinema-savvy roommate, he picked up a camera, shot his first music video, and never looked back. He dropped everything to chase his passion, eventually earning a spot in the film program and dedicating every waking moment to mastering the craft.
But the journey wasn’t without its challenges. A professor once told Quinton he wasn’t funny or talented enough to write or direct. Instead of backing down, he leaned into the criticism, took the professor’s classes on purpose, and wrote a thesis film that landed in the biggest Black film festival. (Petty? Maybe. But definitely proof that determination wins.)
Graduating into the pandemic, Quinton teamed up with his ex to create a sketch show, using the time to hone his skills in writing, directing, and acting. When the relationship ended, he channeled that energy into his own project, Petty Apartment, a sketch comedy show born out of a desire to prove he was funnier. (Again, petty—but hey, it’s all fuel for creativity.)
Five years later, Quinton has carved out a space for himself in the world of storytelling, and tonight, he’s here to share his journey, his insights, and his unique perspective with all of you. So, let’s dive in and get inspired.
This is Soul Perspectives, where the soul speaks, and perspectives shift. Let’s get it!
