July 27, 2026: A NEW CKUT PODCAST "A Collective Diagnosis: Medical Colonialism in Canada"

**Segment begins at around 8:05 minutes** In this episode, student journalist Victoria shares a sneak peek of what the new and soon-to-be-released CKUT podcast, "A Collective Diagnosis: Medical Colonialism in Canada" has in store for listeners! The podcast aims to deconstruct racial biases and discrimination perpetuated by the healthcare system against Indigenous peoples through a historical and contemporary analysis of the Canadian medical system. Listeners will learn about the systemic and geographical barriers that too often inhibit Indigenous patients from seeking and receiving proper healthcare. The discursive podcast project includes interviews with Indigenous and non-Indigenous researchers, community organizers, healthcare professionals, and educators, whose projects are tied to the complex history of medical colonialism. In discussions with Samir Shaheen-Hussain, Richard Budgell, Alex McComber, Josée Lavallée, and Gisela Becker, you’ll hear about some of the following: #aHand2HoldCampaign, historical research on the Grenfell Mission in North West River community, the Kahnawake Schools Diabetes Prevention Project, community-based initiatives in the School of Nursing at McGill University, and The Innu Midwifery Program. A Collective Diagnosis also aims to provide insight on the ins and outs of organizing community, youth, and education for the purposes of Indigenous health. Medical colonialism is a collective and ongoing issue that disproportionately impacts Indigenous individuals and communities. Listeners of all backgrounds are encouraged to listen!
