May 2, 2023: Celebrating Black Mothers w/Kim Richardson
For the month of May we have decided to Celebrate Black Mothers and we have a wonderful lineup of mothers across the country to introduce you to. Our first guest is the living legend that is Kim Richardson.
From a young age, Kim Richardson began her career as an actress and dancer in theaters in the Toronto area. As a teenager, she performed as a singer in bars, with the permission of her mother, not yet being of legal age to enter. At age 20 in 1986, Kim won her first Juno Award for Most Promising Performer of the Year for her single He's My Lover, and the following year won a second for Best R&B/Soul Recording for her peek-a-boo song. The hat trick was completed in 1994, with a Juno for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, recorded with The Merlin Factor.
Over the year Kim worked with renowned Canadian Artists and racked up quite the CV appearing on over 500 records while raising a family at a very young age. With a love of theatre and community, Kim Richardson takes a moment out of her schedule to chat with us here on Soul Perspectives letting us know about how the intersection between motherhood and art can be pure magic.
Join us May 2, 2023 from 7-8.30pm on CKUT 90.3FM or www.ckut.ca and listen to us live or in our archives.
