June 4, 2023: HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!
Tonight on Cha Cha Cha In Blue we celebrate PRIDE MONTH with an opening set of songs that are either performed by LGBTQ+ artists or where the subject fits thematically. Note also that according to Columbus Monthly, "It's about as common to find an openly gay bluesman as it is to find an openly gay power forward." That said, we have a setlist that includes Mike Nagoda, Gaye Adegbalola, Ma Rainey, Frankie 'Half-Pint' Jaxon, Louis Powell, Connie McLean's Rhythm Boys, Josh White, Cécile Doo-Kingué, Fantastic Negrito, Bad News Barnes, Sean Carney, Bobby Dove, Long John Baldry, and Willie Dixon The new release deck tonight provides a sneak peak at Guy Bélanger's new album coming out June 9. In the "history" part of the show I've got Ethel Waters, Bo Carter, Junior Wells, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, James Harman, Tinsley Ellis, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Boz Scaggs. We'll close with a song from Dawn Tyler Watson in advance of her Thursday show at Upstairs.
