Welcome to Soul Perspectives on CKUT 90.3 FM, airing every Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 PM and you can also listen online at www.ckut.ca.
Tonight, we are thrilled to welcome our invited guest artist, Rachel Mutombo. Rachel is an award-winning actor and writer whose talent has taken her from the screen to stages across Canada. A graduate of the prestigious National Theatre School of Canada, she has brought diverse and powerful performances to both theatre and film audiences. In addition to her acting, Rachel is a skilled freelance writer, featuring her work in outlets like CBC and Intermission Magazine.
Her debut full-length play, Vierge, won 1st prize in Infinitheatre’s Write-On-Q playwriting competition and was recently shortlisted for the QWF Prize for Playwriting. Rachel has multiple other exciting projects in the works, collaborating with theatre companies like Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon and bcurrent in Toronto. She is also developing a play for young audiences, Homeroom, which won the 2021 Playwright's Guild of Canada Tom Hendry TYA Award. Recently, Rachel was honoured with the Canadian Playwright Prize from the Jon Kaplan Legacy Fund.
As a proud alumna of Black Theatre Workshop’s artist mentorship program, Rachel is deeply moved to see Vierge receive its Montreal premiere with a company that is so close to her heart.
We’re excited to hear more about her journey, creative process, and the inspirations behind her work tonight. This is Soul Perspectives—where the soul speaks, and perspectives shift. Let’s get into it!!
