February 11, 2025: Interview with (Out)Spoken Word Artist & Author Shanice Nicole

Today, we’re honoured to welcome a powerhouse guest who embodies resilience, creativity, and activism.

Our guest is a Black feminist educator, a facilitator, a writer, an (out)spoken word artist, and a mother based right here in Montreal. She discovered her love for poetry in the summer of 2015, and it wasn’t long before she fell in love with the mic and the stage. Her debut children’s book, Dear Black Girls, features one of her earliest poems and was published by Metonymy Press in 2021. It’s a love letter to Black girls everywhere, and it’s just one example of how she uses her voice to uplift and empower.

She’s also the curator of free community resources like Jobs & Things and All Black Everything Montreal, proving that her commitment to her community knows no bounds. In 2022, she was nominated as Gala Dynastie’s Author of the Year, and in 2024, she was named one of CBC Quebec’s Black Changemakers. She believes deeply in the power of every individual to create change and dreams of a freer, more just world for us all.
