Favoriting October 12, 2025: HAPPY CANADIAN THANKSGIVING! NEW RELEASES! This Week In Blues History! Where It's At (The Live Music Roundup)!

Listen to this show: Pop-up listenListen | Download

Tonight on Cha Cha Cha In Blue we wish a HAPPY CANADIAN THANKSGIVING to all with songs from ZZ Top, Robert Finley, Tiago Costa, Roosevelt Sykes, Doyle Eck, Randy Lee Riviere, David Maxwell, Cécile Doo-Kingué, Lowell Fulson, and Little Georgie and the Shuffling Hungarians. This week's crop of new releases consists of singles from upcoming albums by Eric Bibb, Laurence Jones, and The Bros. Landreth (with Bonnie Raitt!) plus a new single from southern country rockers The Red Clay Strays and a psychedelic jamband reinterpretation of an Otis Rush classic by Dave Alvin's "The Third Mind". The "history" part starts in 1927 with Blind Willie McTell and leads all the way to new releases by way of "Big Maceo" Merriweather, Miles Davis with Rubberlegs Williams, Nappy Brown, Robert Nighthawk, Muddy Waters, Lowell Fulson, Little Milton, Mississippi Heat, Robert Ward, and Kenny Neal. There are two opportunities to catch ex-Montrealer Mark Crissinger when the prodigal son returns this week - Wednesday at Bistro À Jojo and Thursday at Microbrasserie Cardinal Brewing in his home town of Hudson. We'll close with a song from his live acoustic show cd.

Eric Bibb  This One Don’t   Favoriting One Mississippi  Repute Records  2025  “This One Don’t’ is the first single from the upcoming album, One Mississippi due out Jan 30, 2026 via Repute Records. The song was inspired by a gig at a Blues Fever Festival in Vienna, where he played in front of a crowd who love dancing to the Blues. Happily, they were able to include these folks in the video. "Hard times require furious dancing." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEkx3Emve-E

Laurence Jones  On My Own   Favoriting On My Own  Ron Records  2025  The title track from his forthcoming first-ever acoustic album out January 23, 2026. The album marks a new chapter for Jones, following what he describes as the most difficult year of his life battling Crohn’s disease. Written during a flare up, On My Own reflects raw truths about living with this invisible illness, love, and life on the road. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64Ss1F0ObXQ

The Third Mind  Reap What You Sow   Favoriting Right Now!  Yep Roc Records  2025  The Third Mind formed in 2020 as what seemed like a one-off project for Blasters' Dave Alvin. Alvin and bassist Victor Krummenacher searched for largely obscure folk, blues, jazz, and rootsy tunes, mostly from the 60s, that reflected those times and reinterpret them, without rehearsal. An engineer rolls tape, the outfit—organized in a circle so everyone sees each other - starts covering, actually reinterpreting, pre-chosen songs without defined arrangements. What we ended up with here is a psychedelic jam band cover of the Otis Rush classic "Reap What You Sow" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRsgPJuwqL4

The Bros. Landreth  Knuckles feat. Bonnie Raitt   Favoriting Dog Ear  Birthday Cake Records  2025  A brand-new single from their upcoming album Dog Ear, set for release on Nov 14 and featuring Bonnie Raitt. “Before Bonnie became part of this track, she was already a huge part of our story! We met her a number of years ago—and what started as admiration turned into a friendship and collaboration that we deeply cherish!” Raitt has been a champion of The Brothers Landreth’s music. In 2023, she won the Grammy Award for Best Americana Performance for her cover of their song “Made Up Mind.” Not bad for some good Canadian boys from Winnipeg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ygKZMcY-xU
