FEATURED NEW RELEASES
Talk Time ID         The documentary ‘Rumble - The Indians Who Rocked the World’ confirmed the connection between indigenous music, especially Cree rhythms and melodies, and early folk and blues. A.W. Cardinal of Blue Moon Marquee, whose bloodline is Woodland Cree from Northern Alberta, had always heard the connection and last year took the opportunity to record with the Northern Cree Singers, a powwow and Round Dance drum and singing group based in Maskwacis, Alberta, Canada. The result is a blending of country blues and folk blues with Powwow drumming and singing.

Talk Time ID         GA-20 has drawn inspiration for their old-school sounds from the music they love from artists such as Otis Rush, J.B. Lenoir, Howlin’ Wolf, Junior Wells, Hound Dog Taylor, Earl Hooker, Johnny ‘Guitar’ Watson and so many others. GA-20 released ORPHANS on Friday - show favorites, available as digital singles, that band members - leader Matthew Stubbs on Guitar & Baritone Guitar, Cody Nilsen on Vocal, Guitar & Lap Steel, and Josh Kiggans on drums—have been eager to record.

GA-20  I Don't Mind   Favoriting Orphans  Colemine  2025  James Brown recorded "I Don't Mind" on September 27, 1960. Producer Gene Redd considered the unusual chord progression musically "wrong". In Brown's words, it "opens with a 13, goes down to a C9, then goes to a G7 and to the A7" This led to Brown threatening not to record the song if he didn't get it his way, to which Redd eventually agreed. On the track, guitarist Les Buie came in a few notes early on his guitar solo, and instead of doing a retake, Brown liked it and decided to keep it, so I'm surprised that GA-20 didn't repeat that stuttering beginning to the solo, staying closer to the Who's 1965 cover. It's also been covered by The Moody Blues, The McCoys, MC5 and The Residents.
