Of the more than 300 new releases I logged this year about 50 came from Canadian artists so it was no mean feat to pare it down to a dozen favourites. Tonight on Cha Cha Cha In Blue we start a year-end wrap-up with a dozen of my favourite Canadian "bluesy" releases. In no particular order (other than being a smoothly flowing playlist) I chose Steve Marriner, Murray Kinsley & Wicked Grin, Crystal Shawanda, Blue Moon Marquee & Northern Cree, Angelique Francis, Geoff Arsenault, Guy Belanger, Bywater Call, Renovation Blues Band, Paul Pigat, The Bros. Landreth, and Izzo Blues Coalition. I've got advance tracks from upcoming albums by Robben Ford and Philip Sayce as well as the new ballad from Montreal's Bob Scienza and The Wigs. The "history" part of the show goes back to a 1924 recording by Virginia Liston with Sam Gray and continues with Clara Smith, Jelly Roll Morton, Freddie King, and Bobby Christina's Caravan featuring Matt Murphy. The show closes with a HAPPY NEW YEAR to you with songs from Big Harp George Bisharat, Lightnin' Hopkins, Son Lewis Band, Jerome Godboo, Lonnie Johnson, Mike Dangeroux, and my traditional year-end closer by Babs Gonzales, "Watch Them Resolutions". And that closes out my 36th year at CKUT!
