Tonight on Cha Cha Cha In Blue we had a wealth of choices for an opening theme. Tomorrow is Juneteenth, highly apropos in blues. Here in Montreal it's Formula 1 weekend and I love me some car tunes. So I went with the most obvious choice - HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! I split the set into two parts: Dad Songs (from The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer, Sterling Blues Band, Shemekia Copeland, Steve Howell, Dan Sumner & Jason Weinheimer, Big Bill Morganfield, and a new song from Roger "Hurricane" Wilson) and Dad Bands (Lonnie Brooks (with Ronnie Baker Brooks), Jonas & The Blues Blooded (Jonas Tomalty with dad Rick), Alan Gerber (with Eli & Hannah Gerber), and The Snyders (Denis with Lorrie & Philip)). Then I have the absolutely, positively most appropriately timed new release possible - "Dancing With The Devil" from the Montreal duo Father 'N' Son. In the "history" part of the show I've got Bessie Smith, Frankie 'Half-Pint' Jaxon, Robert Johnson, Jerry “Boogie” McCain, Howlin' Wolf, Lazy Lester, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Albert King, Bobby “Blue” Bland, and Dave Specter with Tad Robinson. We'll close with a song from the Ben Racine Band as a prelude to their Thursday show at Upstairs'.
