Favoriting September 19, 2023: Spotlight on the Black Disabled Community with Pierre Paul

For the month of September, we decided to put the spotlight on our community within our community that doesn't often get much airtime. For the entire month we are speaking to folks either from or contributing to the betterment of the disabled community. Some disabilities are visible, but many are also invisible.

At twenty-four years old, Pierre Paul is the founder and CEO of We Hear You® a company specializing in inclusivity and accessibility, with the focus of bringing awareness to a variety of needs for folks with disabilities and creating innovative solutions to accessibility problems. He believes in bringing compassion and a unique worldview to every project the company engages in. He was born in Brazil, then moved to Guyana, before finally migrating to the US as a child Pierre faced unabashed xenophobia, racism and poverty at a very young age. Through it all he became resolute, Pierre decided to perfect his English and public speaking ability in order to someday be a voice for those whose voices went unheard. When not working on We Hear You®, he works part time as the Director of Development for the United States Association for Small Businesses and Entrepreneurship in the Accessibility office at Bradley and travels the US leading Diversity and Inclusion trainings for organizations.

Additionally, Pierre volunteers as a mentor for students, hands out food at a local food pantry, gives public speaking lessons to people in his community and creates educational history videos for his local PBS station. His life experiences instilled a compassionate and giving spirit within him that drives Pierre’s mission: to consistently work toward a better future. This mission coupled with his educational background and ability to articulate the cause and motivate people is a trifecta of qualities rarely found in his generation. Pierre states “Helping others prosper is ingrained in my DNA and I try to bring that to everything I do.”

Everything he does also includes publishing his first children’s picture book: “Carden: The Wheelchair Warrior” is a story of whimsy, courage and individuality inspired by real-life disability advocate, Carden Wyckoff. Join Carden as she navigates a new school and goes on a journey through her imagination to realize the true warrior within her. Copies of Pierre’s book can be found on Amazon.

Find Pierre on IG @pierrepaul15 and his company @wehearyouasl or visit the website: www.wehearyouasl.com. Join us to find out more about our guest on www.ckut.ca and 90.3FM on your radio dial.
