Favoriting May 28, 2024: Teen Talk Live From Westhaven: Celebrating Black Mothers

As we conclude our celebration of Black Mothers in May one of our guests' for tonight is Amanda Benn. A dancer, choreographer, leader, long-standing community and youth worker. These are the titles that Amanda is deeply rooted in. Above all these roles, Amanda has become a mother which has shifted her perspective in everything in life, enabling her to explore deeper purpose in the arts.

Over the years she has performed on stages in Trinidad, the United States,Toronto and in every corner of Montréal. Blessings stages with genres such as; stepping, jazz, afro jazz, musical jazz, hip-hop, Afro-Caribbean Folklore and dancehall. Her experience as a competitive dancer has aided her to adapt quickly within a group. Life itself continues to teach her to care for oneself so that you can be your best amongst others.

Her endeavours include; writing, directing, and performing her own theatre work. Teaching workshops and classes to everyone that can move from toddlers to seniors and everyone in-between. There are great dancers but few good teachers and Amanda considers herself to be one.

It is not what you teach, it's how you teach. It's not the steps you count, it's how you move.

Tune in from 7-8.30pm EST on CKUT 90.3FM or www.ckut.ca
