Favoriting May 10, 2026: HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! MOTHER FUYERS INCLUDED! NEW RELEASES! This Week In Blues History! Where It's At (The Live Music Roundup)!

Listen to this show: Pop-up listenListen | Download

Tonight on Cha Cha Cha In Blue we celebrate Mother's Day with songs from Shemekia Copeland, Selwyn Birchwood, Little Milton, Cheryl Lescom, Sunday Wilde, Super Chikan, and Johnny Winter. Celebrating mothers is the perfect opportunity to exploit the musical euphemism of Samuel L. Jackson's favourite expletive with "Variations On A Theme Of Mother Fuyer", through the music of Memphis Minnie, Roosevelt Sykes, Chick Willis, Billy Boy Arnold, and Johnny "Guitar" Watson. In the "Shapes Of Things To Come" department we have advance singles from upcoming albums by Chris O'Leary, Ghalia Volt, Misty Blues, and The Rolling Stones. In the history part of tonight's show we're going back one hundred years for a song by Victoria Spivey followed by music from Bessie Smith, Wee Bea Booze, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, Henry Gray, Big Maybelle, Ray Charles, Guy Davis, and Albert King. We'll close with a songs from Fuel Junkie who'll be performing at Upstairs on Thursday.

VARIATIONS ON A THEME OF MOTHER FUYER
  Talk Time ID         The lyrical euphemism for Samuel L. Jackson's favorite expletive is a theme unto itself. There are probably others but the earliest version I found is by Memphis Minnie in 1935. The lyrics were more firmly established by Roosevelt Sykes the following year and every artist since has adapted or added to them. It's a real mother fuyer!

  @6:43 André:

I would appreciate hearing your opinion about this Robert Johnson reissue campaign: https://p-vine.jp/news/20260415-180056
  @9:00 André:

(sound quality-wise)
  @5:17 John:

Since I've neither heard the result nor read the book it's not easy to have an opinion. But if you've ever been in a small room, i.e a hotel room, with a powerful performer it's a highly rewarding experience.
  @10:57 Pegasus:

Great show today ! Thank you
