CKUT, a non-profit, grassroots campus-community radio station affiliated with McGill University and based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal, is seeking a part-time Funding Drive Assistant to join us for 8-weeks.

Every year, Radio CKUT 90.3FM runs a 10-day Funding Drive, inviting listeners and community to support the station through vital financial contributions. Since 1987, this annual drive has been central to CKUT’s sustainability, and this year, we’re gearing up for another exciting campaign from May 2nd to 11th, 2025.

The Funding Drive is a significant source of funding for the station, and one of the most dynamic and important times of year at CKUT! This campaign is run through CKUT’s broadcasts on-air, as well as online, and through special in-person events. The Funding Drive unites all CKUT’s volunteers, show hosts and staff to connect with our incredible listeners and supporters, and thank them for their unwavering support. Donations are thanked through gifts and prizes from community businesses and sponsors.

As the Funding Drive Assistant, you will work alongside our Funding & Outreach Coordinator to bring the campaign to life. This is a perfect opportunity for anyone eager to dive into fundraising and gain hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector.

We’re looking for someone enthusiastic, organized, and ready to help make this year’s Funding Drive our best one yet!


 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Request prize incentives from local businesses and secure sponsorships 
  • Schedule pick-up and delivery of Funding Drive gifts
  • Assist in Coordinating Volunteer and Phone Room schedules throughout the campaign
  • Contact volunteers to sign-up for all phone-room shifts and help with events, promo, etc.
  • Update the Funding Drive website and related social media
  • Work with volunteers/programmers to prepare for Funding Drive and mobilize listeners
  • Assist in the preparation of invoices, thank-you card and gift mail outs before and after the funding drive
  • Help coordinate and assist with Funding Drive events
  • Assist with making and posting social media content during the drive
  • Support the Funding and Outreach Coordinator in any other Funding Drive-related tasks

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be self-motivated, well organized and be able to take initiative independently.
  • Should be comfortable soliciting donations and able to maintain good relationships with sponsors.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills (English), French is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel) and ability to produce reports.
  • Should be able to motivate and work with volunteers.
  • Possess a strong passion for radio and broadcasting, the role of independent campus media, and/or nonprofits.
  • Strong knowledge of CKUT’s programming and mission, an asset.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in a radio or media environment, especially at CKUT or a similar environment (nonprofit, campus and/or community media)
  • Experience or familiarity working within nonprofit organizations
  • Previous experience working in non-hierarchical structures an asset
  • Experience in Montreal arts and culture organizations an asset

The Funding Drive Assistant is a short-term, 8-week position. 

The role will be compensated at $17.75/hour, for 10-15 hours per week (with increased hours during Funding Drive) beginning April 21, 2025 and ending June 13th, 2025. It is an ideal part-time job for a McGill student. The Funding Drive Assistant will be required to work the majority of their hours in-person at CKUT, located at 3647 University in Montreal/Tiohtià:k

Accessibility: This position is largely an office job and will require the use of a computer for extended periods of time. CKUT’s offices are not currently wheelchair accessible as they are located up one flight of 14 stairs.

CKUT is a non-profit, campus-community radio station based at McGill University. Since 1987, the station has provided alternative music, news, and spoken word programming to Montreal and beyond, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. CKUT is made up of over 200 volunteers working with a staff of coordinators, not just to make creative and insightful radio programming, but also to manage the station. The station operates on a collective management system that includes volunteers in decision-making.
