IT WENT DOWN: IGLOO FEST

I went to IglooFest on January 25th with a couple of friends and I was beyond excited to see Skepta (along with all the other DJs, Syreeta and Dennis Ferrer). To be completely honest, from both my own experience and what I heard from others at the festival, it was hard to distinguish the artists just by their music alone. Of course, they each had their own subtle artistic distinctions, but their sets blended together seamlessly. It felt like listening to a flawlessly curated playlist—one overarching vibe, with every track flowing effortlessly into the next.

During the concert, the music actually took me somewhere—it felt so liberating. I was genuinely dancing my ASS off! It was really fun, felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders. And even though the ticket price left my wallet feeling pretty sore, I’m so glad I went.

The artists mixed techno, house, dance, and rap, occasionally weaving in mainstream tracks like FE!N by Travis Scott but remixing them with their own flair. They introduced us to underground music, fresh beats, and sounds that made the whole experience feel electric. But no, unfortunately Skepta did not rap once.

On the other hand, the festival also provided marshmallows with fire pits, a fun maze, some food trucks, a slide, free merch like hand warmers. With everyone dressed in ski gear, and the snow falling — it created an almost cinematic effect, which really enhanced the experience. Forgive the cliché but it felt like one of those rare moments where you tell yourself, ‘damn this is actually what life’s all about’. It was a break from stressful deadlines and responsibilities and it carried a lot of meaning.

I also ran into so many people I knew, including one of my TAs —so be wary – if you pre before the festival – be ready to shout tutorial feedback in the snow 😉
