Taking Space is a story about how people interact with physical spaces and the vital role live music plays in shaping and sustaining community. Produced at CKUT throughout the summer, the project unfolds against the backdrop of venue closures, gentrification, and the shrinking of accessible art spaces in Montreal—disproportionately impacting already marginalized groups.
This 4-part radio documentary, airing throughout September on CKUT’s Queercorps, shines a light on the resilience and vibrancy of the city’s queer music communities. Alongside the broadcast, a companion short film will premiere on August 30th, kicking off a night of live performances and celebration.
All of the artists performing have either contributed directly to the project or remain deeply connected to CKUT, bringing together a lineup that spans genres but shares a common commitment to community, resistance, and joy.
This is a benefit show for CKUT 90.3 FM and the artists involved — all proceeds from the night will go directly to supporting the performers and sustaining the station.
