Taking Space: a recent history of queer music in Montreal

Taking Space is a story about how people interact with physical spaces and the vital role live music plays in shaping and sustaining community. Produced at CKUT throughout the summer, the project unfolds against the backdrop of venue closures, gentrification, and the shrinking of accessible art spaces — disproportionately impacting already marginalized groups. We celebrate the resilience and vibrancy of Montreal’s queer music scenes, bringing sounds and stories from different parts of the city together in an immersive exploration.

The film was officially launched on August 30th, and is accompanied by a radio series airing on Queercorps every Monday in September.
