Show Review: Palace and Edwin Raphael

The ides of March this year were marked by the three-member, indie rock band, Palace,  performing for a sold-out crowd at Beanfield Théâtre with Montreal’s very own Edwin Raphael, as their opener.

While Palace delivered an impeccable set, combining beloved classics and new songs off their own label’s first release, their opening act was the one to set the stage for the incredible songwriting and instrumental mastery that defines Palace.  The best way to describe our local talent’s opening set was said by Edwin himself when he introduced his songs as music that came to him in a dream. The hypnotic melodies that he and his band bring to life instantly transport you to a serene plane of existence where the trees are singing to you. Not only did they play fan favourites, including Elephant Crossing~ and Isle of Strawberries, but also shared unreleased music from their upcoming album. If the energy in the crowd during the set and the buzz around the merch table, where Edwin himself thanked fans for their support, was any indication, it seemed like folks left the concert having found a new soundtrack to daydream to.
