Transforming the Airwaves – A Paid Residency Program For Trans Artists of Colour

The Transforming the Airwaves residencies will see six trans artists and community members participate in a paid six-week residency at the station.

Each resident will be on air for a month, with a free and flexible format fitting their own interests and field of practice. The residency will transform CKUT’s airwaves, carving out space for trans voices and on-air creativity and experimentation. We will prioritize BIPOC residents, with a special focus on those active in Montreal’s ballroom, dance, DJ and performance communities.

The project is also looking to prioritize those who have struggled to secure these kinds of opportunities in the past, as we understand it is paid, creative opportunities like this that allow one to build their practice. Please email funding@ckut.ca for more information.

The details:

– Each residency will last 6 weeks, with 2 weeks of light planning/pre-production followed by 4 weeks on-air.

– Residents will be asked to make between 1-5 hours of radio content per week.

– This is a part-time residency meant to complement busy schedules, and residents will likely be working about 5-10 hours/week.

– Residents will receive a $2000 honorarium.
