TAVERN TOUR – THE PREVIEW!

February may not scream festival season, but the folks at Mothland certainly didn’t get the memo. From Thursday to Saturday, February 6th to 8th, they’re packing some of the best acts from home and abroad into Montreal’s most beloved dive bars and venues.

This year’s line-up features local gems Pool Girl, Birds of Prrrey, knitting and No Waves alongside seasoned vets The Sadies and Chandra; plus alternative rap heavyweights Billy Woods and indie sweethearts PACKS and Wombo.

So, if you’re looking for an adventure (or just a reason to leave the house), Louise and I have mapped out the ultimate live-music pub crawl through the streets of St. Laurent. And if you love post-punk as much as we do, here’s your game plan:

February 6th

La Sala Rossa: Montreal’s alt-rock DIYers Poolgirl will be opening for Louisville’s Wombo. Dry off from Poolgirl’s wet new EP “POOL PARTY” with some indie pop-punk magic from the headlining trio.

La Sotterenea: Perhaps you need a garage-pop provocateur in your life—if so, check out Montreal’s The Wesleys. Or maybe you need some fucking comic relief, some amount of whimsy, in the words of New York’s Alex Walton. Lucky for you, they’ll be sharing the stage this Thursday.

February 7th

Le Ministere: A powerhouse lineup featuring Priors, Rough Francis, and Birds of Prrrey, followed by the vinyl soul stylings of Jonathan Toubin’s New York Night Train.

Casa del Popolo: Speed Massacre, No Waves, and Pressure Pin in a triple punk-header.

February 8th (I’d be lacing up my sturdiest boots for this one – it’s a marathon, not a sprint)

Le Belmont: The grimiest of garage punk shows featuring the Gories, The Retail Simps, and the Subletters.

Le Ministere: Montreal post-punk favorites Le Securite opening for CHANDRA.

L’Esco: Your college radio’s favorite band, knitting, followed up by some PACKS twang.
