CKUT is hiring a Social Media Coordinator – Canada Summer Jobs

About the Job

The Social Media Coordinator will work with the various departments at CKUT to help maintain and grow the station’s online presence across social media and digital platforms. The coordinator will help share the stories, programming, events and community projects that make CKUT what it is, helping reflect the energy of what’s happening both on air and behind the scenes at the station. 

CKUT has been broadcasting on the FM dial for nearly 40 years, supporting grassroots journalism, independent music, experimental sound, and community-driven media. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in and passionate about communications, digital media, arts and culture, or community outreach who wants hands-on experience working in independent and community broadcasting. 

This full-time contract position is 35 hours per week for 8 weeks at $20/hour, based at CKUT Studios in Montreal. 

The anticipated start date for this position is July 6, 2026. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, schedule and publish engaging social media content across CKUT’s platforms
  • Create and maintain a social media calendar, highlighting programs, volunteers, events and station projects
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to source photos, audio, and stories for posts
  • Support the design and writing of visuals and captions that align with CKUT’s voice and values
  • Track analytics and engagement to help guide content planning 
  • Assist with digital campaigns as needed; Funding Drive, Giving Tuesday and other event promotion
  • Support email newsletter drafting and coordination with appropriate department coordinators
  • Increase visibility and engagement with CKUT’s programming, volunteers and events


Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation tools
  • Experience using tools such as Canva, Photoshop, InDesign, etc. 
  • Experience using social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and Youtube 
  • Interest in community radio, local arts and/or independent media
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and collaborate across teams
  • Creativity, reliability and enthusiasm for CKUT’s mission
  • Bilingualism (Eng/Fr) and familiarity with Montreal’s community and cultural landscape are assets 

Eligibility Requirements 

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of employment 
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person granted refugee status in Canada 
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada
